I have removed the commonly held genealogy of Edward Travers/Travis I from my Travis Tree, as I now believe it to be incorrect.  The Travis family of Nateby and Tulketh came to an end because of their Catholicism.  The Edward in that family is documented to have become a Jesuit priest wandering around Europe rather than a tobacconist in VA.  It seems this information was always available, but was buried in the Exchequer and Recusancy Rolls and the Lancashire Quarter Session (court) records until those records were summaried by J. P. Gillow in an extensive footnote in 1909.  Apparently Henry Sides, whose 1864 pedigrees were relied upon by later American researchers, was not aware of the family's Catholicism. It has been suggested that Edward of VA may have come from Ireland instead of England. Hopefully, one day someone will provide the answer that will tell us who Edward Travers really was.
