John Jackson was born 1753 in PA and died 10 Aug 1810 in Clinton Co., Ohio.  After their marriage, John and Phoebe Beales Jackson moved to Surry Co., North Carolina.  He had received a North Carolina, USA land grant on Chinquepin Creek which was located near Tom'a Creek and the newly formed Quaker Meeting House at Westfield. When Stokes Co., was formed, this land was just over the line in the newly formed Stokes Co. There are several deeds for John Jackson at Dobson, NC. county seat of Surry Co., NC, where he bought and sold land and was a witness to many deeds and wills.

They became members of the Westfield Quaker Meeting on 3 Mar 1792, where they were members for several years. This was a few years before he moved to Greene Co., TN. It is recorded in the MM records that John Jackson was disowned from the Meeting for "going to law with a member of our society, also for not complying with his contracts and for a breach of trust in that of taking a traveler's horse in order to take care of him and trading the horse away without the leave of the said traveler, and when he (the traveler) returned have him no true information nor made him any satisfaction for said horse. John is not mentioned again in any Quaker records after his disownment except as the father of his children or as Phoebe's husband.

The John Jackson family and Phoebe Beals family were listed in the original membership of the Westfield Monthly Meeting in Surry Co., North Carolina. Westfield was one of the oldest settlements in Surry county. It grew around a Quaker mission established in 1760. First named Tom's Creek but renamed in 1786 because it became the Western Missionary filled by New Garden Quakers.  Referred to as "the western field" because it was west of New Garden Friends Meeting at Greensboro, NC. Westfield Monthly Meeting of Friends was established on Nov. 13, 1786. (From Jo Martin)

John and his family left Westfield, North Carolina in 1799 and moved to Greene Co., TN  Nine of their eleven children were born in North Carolina and two children were born after the move to Greene Co., TN.
