Daniel Warren (1628-1716)
Mary Barron died in Watertown on 13 Feb 1715/16.[1/V.2 p.57] She married Daniel Warren on 10 Dec 1650 in Watertown[[1/V.1 p.15] He was born about 1627 and died after 1699. He was the son of John Warren and Margaret (_____) of Watertown.
Daniel's family has lived at Nayland, Suffolk Co for many generations before coming to America.
Daniel was born in Nayland, England and at Age 3 sailed with his father to Massachusetts. They came from Hayland to Boston with Governor Winthrop in the ship Arabella. He arrived at Salem, June 12, 1630 and went to first Charlestown and then on to Watertown.
Lived in Watertown, MA as a farmer and was a selectman of the town (1682-98).
Served as a soldier in King Philip's War, a major and bloody conflict between Indians and Colonists in 1675-76. M. Mary Barron, 10 Dec 1650.
On Dec. 30, 1662 the selectmen confirmed 10 or 12 acres of land to Daniel that his father, John WARREN, bought from the town. The land was on the north side of Beaver Brook.[2/1:75] Daniel was very active in town affairs. In 1669 he was chosen surveyor of highways, replacing Richard Waite, who had died.[2/1:94] He was chosen in 1671 to "looke to fences swine and Catle";[2/1:102] was constable in 1675,[2/1:121] and was selectman for thirteen years: 1683-4, 1686, 1688-90, 1693-98, and 1700.[2/2:14-131] Daniel was also the moderator of the town meetings Sept. 4 and 25, 1694[2/2:79] and was one of a committee Feb. 4, 1695-6 to find a minister "to dispence the word of God to the town in the new meetinghouse".[2/2:101] Daniel Warren, Sr. appears on a list of Watertown men who were impressed into service in King Phillip's War.[3/171] There are other records of service in this war for Daniel Warren but they might be for his son who definitely was active in the conflict, as evidenced by land grants he received in 1733 while still alive.
