Thank you for your hard work preparing the marriage list. Very helpful. I am Janet Coffman and believe I that John Nicholas Coffman is my 5th great grandfather and his son Harmon Coffman is my 4th great grandfather. I am visiting Shenandoah area of Virginia next week for the first time and excited to be in the area of my forefathers and mothers!! Wish I knew someone with geneology knowledge that I could talk to and tell me areas I should visit. Would love to know the actual location of John Coffman or Harmon Coffman’s homesite in the Woodstock, VA. area.
I am SO sorry Janet I haven’t replied to you. Excuses #392, #25, #64, et al. Actually, my only excuse is just being overwhelmed. About the time your email came in I was deep into working with MOGenWeb (Missouri Genealogy Website) — https://mogenweb.org as I accepted the position of Assistant state coordinator & tech advisor the month before.
Okay — MY Harmon Coffman’s father CANNOT be John Nicholas Coffman. John Nicholas moved, if I remember correctly to Indiana and STAYED there. My Coffman’s moved to Hardin County, Kentucky and Harmon & a few of his sons moved to north central Missouri. Try checking my database — https://idogenealogy.info/tng
That has all the data logged at the moment. I have much more. There were umpteen Abraham Coffman’s in early Virginia. Check in Augusta County, VA as well.
I would be curious what you were able to find.
