    Notes:

Alva was my paternal grandfather; he was always called "Alvie" He was totally deaf. The story was at age 17 or 19 he was standing under a tree for shelter during a lightening storm. The tree was struck and his ear drums burst. He could read lips well and a "Magic Tablet" was always available in our house. He should not have been allowed to drive, but he had a license.

Once we drove from our farm to Trenton, MO and he let out my mother and I in the alley by the bank. Mother got out first and I was getting out as well--had my feet just outside the car. Grandpa started to drive off. I almost got caught by the door and drug underneath the car. Being only eight years old, I was quick to react and jumped into space by a column. Scared my mother & me. It was the last time I went anywhere with him at the wheel.

Grandpa was not demonstrative toward me; I do not know about his other grandchildren. I remember no hugs. No kind words. He was just a man I called "grandpa".

    Notes:

Very little is known about this man. He was Vina's biological father but she was raised by Sidney C. Ray who never officially adopted her. However, she had a very close relationship with her step-siblings.

He is listed as Vina's father on documentation but he and Eliza NEVER married. Imagine the year being 1881 and you were unmarried *and* pregnant.

My cousin was researching him when she was tragically killed in a one-car accident. She told me she had found he had his first wife "put away" or institutionalized so that he could marry another woman -- Mary Melissia WISEHART. But before she could send me the documentation ... She was researching in Kansas City.

Believed Taylor Sanford was from Sullivan County, MO but that has not been confirmed.

Both he and Melissa were from Judson in Sullivan County, MO. "A post office called Judson was established in 1861, and remained in operation until 1905.[2] Besides the post office, Judson had a country store.[3]. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judson,_Missouri.

    Notes:

He went by Harmon all his life. The only reference found with his first name was in his father's will. Most of the men in his family as well as his sons also went by their middle name.

I do not believe he knew the date of his birth -- not even the month. He was the last child of Abraham Coffman who was born in Virginia.

He may not be in the 1840 census. It's possible that Elender had died (I have not found any record of her death or burial.) and he was living with a brother or sister, parents, etc.

There is an Ann Eliza Coffman (father Harmon) m Wm Kennedy but found her death certificate. She was listed as "colored".

I haven't found a census record for John Gilbert or "Sealy" in 1880. His young daughter Docia died on 2 Jan 1880 so the Dudleys had to have come to Missouri *before* 1880.

They sold land in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana to a Lewis Rees on 23 Jun 1871. Her name is listed as Sealy Dudley.

I have removed Military Service as a MyTreeTag. He appears he registered - the name and age are correct. There are no records he lived in Miami county. And there are no records on Fold3 for him in the Civil War.

    Notes:

Isaac Milton Collins is *NOT* -- repeat -- **NOT** by 2nd great-grandfather although I had been told for years he was. Nor was the man (surname BRAY) his father -- it looks like Bray was never even IN Missouri.

Isaac Milton Collins was orphaned when he was a few weeks old (in my family story he was 3 weeks old). Both his parents died. The ROOKS brought him up. Through much research, I found the Rooks daughter was his mother. Thus his grandparents raised him. My grandparents (Coffman's) talked about the Rooks family all the time when I was a little girl. I always wondered why but as a child, little girls did *not* ask questions about an adult-only conversation.

More research showed that Isaac was a very popular name for this family. All of this was uncovered in the last few years (2019-).

Margaret is definitely a "tre" person-- a strong possibility the Martha was just a misspelling. More research on Marsha. If no more sources are found, may remove Martha.

My bet is Elizabeth has a sister named after her mother, Martha A, born 29 Mar 1828. See https://www.ancestry.com/interactive/8484/EdgarCntyIL-0578?pid=2088&treeid=160212268&personid=282092399290&rc=539,1471,665,1509%3B751,1473,829,1511%3B640,2675,813,2723&usePUB=true&_phsrc=Quv22057&_phstart=successSource
