He went by Harmon all his life. The only reference found with his first name was in his father's will. Most of the men in his family as well as his sons also went by their middle name.

I do not believe he knew the date of his birth -- not even the month. He was the last child of Abraham Coffman who was born in Virginia.

He may not be in the 1840 census. It's possible that Elender had died (I have not found any record of her death or burial.) and he was living with a brother or sister, parents, etc.

There is an Ann Eliza Coffman (father Harmon) m Wm Kennedy but found her death certificate. She was listed as "colored".

They sold land in Muncie, Delaware County, Indiana to a Lewis Rees on 23 Jun 1871. Her name is listed as Sealy Dudley.

I have removed Military Service as a MyTreeTag. He appears he registered - the name and age are correct. There are no records he lived in Miami county. And there are no records on Fold3 for him in the Civil War.

There is a John Coffman and a Henry Pendleton Coffman listed separately in Abraham's will.

The Jacob Coffman (ignored) has a son Abraham Coffman born in Hardy Co WV.
