HOWEVER, SADLY, I cannot get "any" verification that Champion Travis' son, John Travis is THIS man.

****John TRAVIS is my 4th great-grandfather but wives need to be verified. A wife named Sarah was listed living with him in the 1850 census at their son Isaac (George Isaac) home. There is another marriage of a John Travis to Elizabeth Oliver but I do not know if this is the same John Travis. There is another John Travis married Sarah CHURCH, dau of Edward Church, his firstborn. 5/1/2020

Fold3 has a company payroll record for a TRAVIS, John in the 5 Virginia Regiment (Revolutionary War) as a Drum Major in Capt. Burges Ball's Co of the 5th Virginia Regiment. Serving from April 1 to May 1, 1777. And from Nov 28, 1776 to April 1, 1777, from Sep 28 to Oct 28, 1776. Oct 28 to Nov 28, 1776. Ergo, he served from Nov 28, 1776 until May 1, 1777. Chilton was Shelton and more likely her maiden name. BUT I haven't found a father for her. I've found Sarah's but what I've found also having one dying young, the rest married but not to a TRAVIS or anything close to that spelling. THEREFORE I'm removing her maiden name from the tree. 5/17/2020 7:03pm

Both John & Sarah were living when the 1850 census was taken in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He was 81 and she was 80. She was born in Maryland in 1770. He was born in Virginia in 1769 (based on census). They were living with Isaac Travis.
