Not Fun — Cleaning Out Duplicate Computer Files

I HATE doing it, and
I hate it even more when I was the one who made the clutter!

If you carry a laptop or an iPad for researching genealogy away from home, you may need to check that you haven’t downloaded the same file multiple times.

If your device has limited file space, you REALLY need to check for duplicate files.

AND if you keep most of your files on Google Drive, you *STILL* need to clean up.

One of my common errors was to have the same file in multiple places. Sometimes that really makes sense, but I guarantee you I didn’t need 7 copies of the same picture. That’s embarrassing.

I messed up multiple times and several different ways and the worst part — I KNEW BETTER! And in almost every case, I was in a hurry and was not careful. ARGH!!!!! How I have paid for that. Hours of labor to getting rid of duplicate files. I’m almost done.

I will say my laptop loads faster. I still have one folder that needs cleaning.
And my cleanup — all in the cloud. Sigh!
